I don't know about you, but I have hit and miss luck when it comes to Ebay.
I spotted these cane tub chairs a few weeks ago...
Nice huh! Ignore the ugly cushions....they would go - but the chairs.......LOVE!
There were 6 days to go on the auction, so I patiently waited.......watching......making sure no one else was making any bids.
There was a starting price of $280, a little steep I thought, but if I could get them for not too much more I would have snagged myself a bargain.
About 3 days in, there was a bid of $280 - it's OK I thought, maybe that was the vendor bid, seen as it was the starting price and all.
The days ticked over and there were no more bids - I thought maybe they aren't actually that great - no one else wants them. I kept going back and looking at them - nope...I loved them, and the fact that no-one else had bid on them made me think, maybe I'm in with a chance.
Just in case you're wondering.....this story does NOT have a happy ending!
So it came down to the wire and I sat there poised, ready to pounce, the minutes and seconds counted down.....still there were no more bids......THIS IS MINE....I thought! I thought wrong!
With about 30 seconds to go I placed my bid......$360....surely this would get it........NOPE in the final 5 seconds I was outbid by $5..........$5
I frantically tried to bid $375 but it was gone.......GONE! I missed it by $5........I'm so annoyed. I really don't think I will find chairs like these again. And as they say when you can't have something you want it even more.
There has to be some sort of Ebay rort going on....please let me in on the secret....tell me everything! Should I have bid higher.....way higher? did I let them go too easily?
To the lucky bidder who won these chairs.....firstly I hope you are not a dealer who is going to onsell them - I hope you are going to love them as much as I would have........I was going to paint them coral and they would have looked so lovely in my living room.......(can you hear the violins!).
Ebay......for now I hate you......we'll see if that changes in the future......I'll keep you posted!
The main reason for this blog post is so I have a permanent record of these chairs and what they look like JUST IN CASE I do see something similar in the future.
What have you missed out on, on Ebay?
Kx

I feel your pain. This has happened to me, particularly with bamboo or cane items or chinoiserie, which once nobody wanted, and now everybody is searching for. I was the only bidder until the last few minutes when it just went crazy and blew the price out of the water and it was over before I knew what was happening. I have lost out on a number of great buys that I was going to turn into fabulous pieces for home and it is such a disappointment when you lose out, particularly because nice items like this are so few and far between on eBay, unlike in the US where they are a dime a dozen!
ReplyDeleteI've never tried bidding on eBay. But just in case I ever do, thanks for the warning!
ReplyDeleteI am not to sure where in Sydney you are located, but in Drummoyne there is a cane shop that had similar chairs on display a few months ago. The shop is on Victoria Rd. I have never stopped in but drive past it a lot. I think it is Naturally Cane or something similar.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I have just stumbled upon your blog tonight, it is very inspiring :)
Thanks for the tip Little Wheels - I might have to take a drive and check it out - maybe it was them who won the Ebay bid and their selling them in their shop......Ha Kx
